The Resurrection

Intro: Christ’s Resurrection
Text: Matthew 28:6
6But he is not here. He has risen from death as he said he would. Come and see the place where his body was. 7And go quickly and tell his followers. Say to them: ‘Jesus has risen from death.
I. Ancient (Old) Promises
A. Psalm 49:15 But God will save my life.
He will take me from the grave. Selah
B. Daniel 12:2 Many people who have already died will live again. Some of them will wake up to have life forever. But some will wake up to find shame and disgrace forever. 3The wise people will shine like the brightness of the sky. Those who teach others to live right will shine like stars forever and ever.
II. Doubters
A. Matthew 22:23b That same day some Sadducees came to Jesus. (Sadducees believe that no person will rise from death.)
B. Acts 17:32 When the people heard about Jesus being raised from death, some of them laughed. They said, “We will hear more about this from you later.”
III. Christ’s Resurrection = Our Resurrection
A. John 11:25, 43-44 25Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will have life even if he dies. 43After Jesus said this, he cried out in a loud voice, “Lazarus, come out!” 44The dead man came out. His hands and feet were wrapped with pieces of cloth, and he had a cloth around his face.
Jesus said to them, “Take the cloth off of him and let him go.”

B. Romans 6:4 So when we were baptized, we were buried with Christ and shared his death. We were buried with him so that we could live a new life, just as Christ was raised from death by the wonderful power of the Father.
C. I Corinthians 6:14 By God’s power God raised the Lord Jesus from death. And God will also raise us from death.
D. II Corinthians 4:14 God raised the Lord Jesus from death. And we know that God will also raise us with Jesus. God will bring us together with you, and we will stand before him.
IV. How are the dead raised?
A. I Corinthians 15:35 But someone may ask, “How are the dead raised? What kind of body will they have?”
B. I Corinthians 15:42-44 42It is the same with the dead who are raised to life. The body that is “planted” will ruin and decay. But that body is raised to a life that cannot be destroyed. 43When the body is “planted,” it is without honor. But it is raised in glory. When the body is “planted,” it is weak. But when it is raised, it has power. 44The body that is “planted” is a physical body. When it is raised, it is a spiritual body. There is a physical body. And there is also a spiritual body.

Tulips are a wonderful example of the Resurrection. They are ugly when buried, but beautiful when they rise up out of the earth. This is the way it will be with us. The dead body will not be lovely. But our ressurected body will be very strong, healthy and lovely.
Conclusion:
I Corinthians 1:9Truly, in our own hearts we believed that we would die. But this happened so that we would not trust in ourselves. It happened so that we would trust in God, who raises people from death.
You will rise! But which resurrection will you be in? The first resurrection or the second resurrection? Read Revelation 20:5-6
(Rev 20:5) The rest of the dead did not come
to life again till the thousand years were ended. This is the first
coming back from the dead.
(Rev 20:6) Happy and holy is he who has a part in this first
coming: over these the second death has no authority, but they will be
priests of God and of Christ, and will be ruling with him a thousand
years. (Bible in Basic English)
